Another hot, hot month. We have now prepared the packing house for receiving the freshly picked dates. Everything in our packing house has been clean, scrubbed and waiting. Last minute changes to the picking equipment is being completed.
Forklifts are being delivered which will be used to elevate the picking platforms so at to reach the highest bunches on our tall palms. Packing material is being shipped to the plant in preparation for the harvest.
In 1997, it was August 18th that we began our first picking of the Medjool dates. Not all of our Medjools begin ripening at one time. The ripening process is slow but beginning to build. Excitement for this years harvest is beginning to build as well. In 2002, our medjool harvest was held off by mother nature until the middle of September. In 2003, we were back on schedule with our harvest in late August.
