With blooms beginning we are starting the manual pollination process. This means the new pollen from the male trees which we collected last month will be placed on cotton balls. The cotton balls are then inserted into paper bags which will be placed over the tops of the newly emerging date bunches.
Most of the pollination process takes place by our Palmeros who ascend up the date palm trees using ladders. Along with pollinating the female trees, we are cutting back the old palm branches. Any missed dried palm branches and bunches which were not removed last January, will be taken care of at this time.
