Well Medjool Date lovers guess what?? It's cooking out here! Our average temperature for this month is a whopping 108 degrees. The medjool date palms are loving the hot weather. The fruit is of good size and getting bigger every week. Towards the end of this month we will be placing date bags over the bunches.
These date bags are a nylon mesh netting material which allows for airflow through the bags. The nylon mesh netting protects the medjools from insects, rain and sun. The bags are tied to the top side of the bunches and tied at the bottom with a thin hemp rope. The hemp rope will be untied at the bottom during harvesting and then re-tied each time the medjools have been hand picked from the bunches.
Harvesting will not begin until the end of next month. We continue to water the palm as there is a tremendous need for moisture within the tree and the fruit, especially during this hot month of July.
